Mixing It Up

Posted by Cathy Dickerson

One of the biggest mistakes I see, and hear about, is people walking into the gym and hitting the same workouts week after week.  Don't get me wrong.... I have done this myself and it is very easy to do... but, it isn't the way forward when aiming to accelerate your muscle mass gains.I aim to always be changing it up and keeping variety in my training, whether it be mixing up the order of exercises, or mixing up tempos, reps & sets.  It is however important not to lose track of structure - mixing it up is great, but without the structure behind it, how can you track progress from session to session?
Keep an open mind when training and be willing to try new things. This is how I have made the biggest leaps in my training, though not always getting it right straight away.  Trial and error is what it's all about. Add new exercises into your sessions, up the sets - lower the sets; up the weights - lower the weights; incorporate super sets, drop sets, triple drop sets, pyramid sets, pre and post exhaust.... These are just a few ways I keep it varied and it leaves me with DOMs for days! In the end, change brings about change, so break the cycle and be willing to mix it up. Don't worry... as you will only make gains!
